Shiva Rani Kalita of Assam won the Best Actress Award at
the Ottawa Film Awards held in Canada.
The Begs Best Actress Award has
been awarded Shiva Rani Kalita for
her character in Assam's popular film 'Bridge'
directed by Kripal Kalita.
Shiva Rani Kalita, 22, from Dhakwakhana has brought fame to Assam
and the entire country by winning the Best Actress award at the Ottawa 4th Indian Film Awards
held in Canada from June 22 to June 26. Shiva Rani Kalita, a resident of
Baligaon in Dhakwakhana, has been awarded for her character in the much-debated
Assam film 'Bridge' directed by Kripal Kalita.
The film 'Bridge' was screened at
28 international film fairs, and includes the Indian Penorama category for the
51st International Film Awards in India.
The film highlights the
connection between Brahmaputra and the floods that bring floods to the village
every year. Despite the fact that many have lost loved ones in the midst of
this tragedy, they prefer to live liver-side as they believe that the river has
given them a lot to live.
Director Kripal Kalita says
floods wreak havoc every year. So, the message I wanted to convey through the
film is that life has to continue even after struggle, the sway and the
difficulties. The film also highlights the socio-economic condition of the
people. Annual floods are our largest problem which hampers growth. Since there
is no one in the house, no one has to marry its girls.
The director of the film said
there are really many in the flood affected areas of Assam. Director Kripal
added that Shiva Rani was selected from among the 300 girls. The team was
looking for a girl who did not know acting and her face looked simple. The 89
minute film was made in 2018-20 in the wake of floods and logistics problems.
The picture also captures the natural landscapes of people battling floods.
I am facing it as I am the son of
a farmer from rural Assam. Kripal is an independent filmmaker known for giving
opportunities to newcomers in films. The film for 'Bridge' which is being
composed by Rama Kumar Das and Savita Devi under the 'Kristipharathar' is
edited by Raman Vara and edited by Kishore Deka.
